About

Our story

The idea to develop a Bed and Breakfast emerged from our first visits to Vancouver islands. The kindness of people and the beauty of nature enchanted us. Now in our fifties, we felt that we were ready for a new project. Our search for a location and a house succeeded and we are now settled and happy in beautiful sunny Saltair, a quaint coastal community located between Chemainus and Ladysmith.

Because the climate of the Island is Mediterranean, we were charmed to find that the Lavender grows beautifully and its smell reminds us of the south of France. We named our Bed and Breakfast to honor this aromatic and soothing plant. We are proud to grow our organic lavender in our garden and contribute to Saltair community.

About the Innkeepers

Evelyn and Kay welcome you to our new venture, the Coastal Lavender Bed and Breakfast!

chef evelyn

Evelyn was born in Lyon (France) and has a formidable gastronomic background. Her mom is an excellent cook, and Evelyn enjoyed all kind of French and Lyonnais recipes from an early age. She grew up in a family-owned hotel-restaurant, and her initial experience as a young helper came handy to develop our project. After 20+ years in the industry in various capacities, she decided to reunite with her roots and went back to culinary school. She trained at the Cordon Bleu culinary management training where she completed several courses in hospitality (food safe, nutrients and food, wine and beverage, etc.). Furthermore, she was honored to be one of the few elected students at the prestigious Institut Paul Bocuse’s intensive culinary program dedicated to future Inns and B&Bs chefs. She received advanced education and developed state-of-the-art skills to prepare the best culinary experiences for our guests. She is happy to put her skills to use in a boutique setting where she brings her passion and love for good food.

kay at the beach

Kay is born in France with a background in entrepreneurship and innovation. She enjoyed the idea of the laid-back lifestyle that Vancouver Island offers. Kay brings business and IT skills that were put to work to develop a new B&B from scratch. The Coastal Lavender B&B is hosted in a dream location and was built by converting a residential building into a 2-story Inn with three modern fully featured accommodations for our guests. Kay’s loved to bring ideas to the design and managed the built to make sure that we bring warmth and comfort to the new suites.

Our B&B has fabulous breakfasts, three brand new and modern suites most with views, private entrance, and deck, and we are very happy to welcome our first guests in May 2018!

Whether you are coming from Vancouver mainland, Eastern Canada, or from across the World, we are also happy to provide practical information so you can easily access local attractions and relaxing and fun activities in the area.
